The Australian Hydrographic Office is Australia’s national hydrographic and charting authority and is responsible for producing nautical charts and other products in support of Australia’s maritime interests and Defence operations, ensuring safety and environment protection.
This Office is seeking people who have qualifications or experience or are nearing completion of studies in surveying or spatial sciences to contribute towards achieving our business outcomes.

We have the following roles available to the right candidates:
Geospatial Analyst APS3/4 : Depending on your skill level, if you are successful you may be offered a role at either the lower or higher classification and you will supported in any development that needs to be accommodated.
An APS3/4 Geospatial Analyst is accountable under limited direction to undertake straightforward to moderately complex tasks and activities relating to the production of nautical charts. If you are successful, you will work within a framework of legislation, established principles, work practices and procedures to meet Defence’s mission and business objectives.
In this role you are expected to be competent within the field of cartography, exercise initiative and judgement and work with limited guidance. You’ll plan and complete technical tasks and activities to produce electronic and paper based nautical charts. You will demonstrate commitment to professional development, self-improvement, accountability and performance.
APS 5 Geospatial Analyst: is responsible for the creation and ongoing maintenance of Navigational charts both electronic and paper, using spatial database and cartographic techniques. If you are successful, you are accountable, under limited direction, to perform and achieve moderately complex to complex work relating to the production of nautical charts within an integrated workforce that includes Australian Defence Force members, Australian Public Service staff and contractors. You will coordinate and contribute to the work of a team consistent to a work plan and provide advice and assistance on methods of task completion to team members.
As a supervisor you will be accountable to set work priorities, allocate work, and manage workflows and performance. You are expected to review and develop the quality of work of others and identify opportunities for on-the-job training within a work unit. You will engage and communicate with stakeholders to identify, respond to and provide advice on issues to achieve work unit and Defence outcomes. You are accountable to have, or quickly develop a good understanding of and compliance to relevant legislative frameworks, government decision-making and Defence’s mission and policy requirements.
