The impending retirement of Victoria’s Surveyor-General presents a rare opportunity for licenced surveyors interested in taking on this significant leadership role for the State and the profession. The Surveyor-General is Victoria’s recognised authority on land boundaries, and has powers and responsibilities under many Acts, dealing with land surveying, Crown land and electoral boundaries. The Surveyor-General plays an important leadership role for the land surveying profession including as Chair of the Surveyors Registration Board and as the head of the Office of the Surveyor-General (OSGV).
The position is a statutory role located within the Strategic Land Assessments and Information Division of Land Use Victoria (LUV), within the Local Infrastructure Group of the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP). The Surveyor-General’s role incorporates broad leadership responsibilities across the profession and within the Department.
In addition to providing preeminent technical expertise and professional leadership in the sector, the role leads the Victorian Government’s land surveying services and provides advice to the Minister, Secretary and Executive leadership team of DELWP. It provides leadership in expanding digital capability to create a high performing, highly accountable and sustainable function.

Candidates wishing to be considered for this opportunity will need to be licenced surveyors with a high level of professional expertise and a respected reputation within the land surveying profession. You will also have a track record in leading teams, successfully working with a wide range of stakeholders across government and the community and be able to point to evidence of your contribution to the sector more broadly.
